Nature, Scope and Extent of Department Responsibilities
The Information Services Department consists of two main areas,
Applications and Data Center. Each area has a manager responsible for managing and
supervising the Information Services Department staff.
The Applications area consists of a programming staff organized into eight teams.
Together these teams provide computer application and program services
to over 31,000 employees in 258 schools and other sites as well as
support for more than 197,000 students.
Primary applications that the department is responsible for include Business Systems
using Lawson Software's integrated Enterprise Resource Planning software and the Student
Information System using Computer Associates software.
The Business applications consist
of functions for finance, procurement, inventory, human resources, payroll, and benefits.
The final phase of the successful Lawson ERP implementation was completed on June 30, 2005.
The Student Information System is used for maintaining demographics and records for all students.
Staff responsibilities include managing programs to meet all local, state, and federal
reporting requirements from both primary systems. This system, which successfully meets the
needs of our District as well as the Florida Department of Education, was completely developed
and programmed in-house by the IS Department.
Two emerging applications areas include GIS and the movement toward Web Application Development.
